<p><a href="http://ca.shine.yahoo.com/blogs/fashion/urban-outfitters-curse-word-filled-holiday-catalog-sparks-211900334.html">A Facebook war</a> has erupted over Urban Outfitters&#8217; use of certain words deemed impolite. In the words of one commenter, </p>
<p><span id=".reactRoot[3].[1][2][1]{comment10151294714563798_8314061}.0.[1].0.[1].0.[0].[0][1]" style="color: #333333; font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: 14px; orphans: 2; text-align: left; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; background-color: #edeff4;"> </span><span id=".reactRoot[3].[1][2][1]{comment10151294714563798_8314061}.0.[1].0.[1].0.[0].[0][2]" style="color: #333333; font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: 14px; orphans: 2; text-align: left; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; background-color: #edeff4;" data-ft="{&quot;tn&quot;:&quot;K&quot;}"><span id=".reactRoot[3].[1][2][1]{comment10151294714563798_8314061}.0.[1].0.[1].0.[0].[0][2].0" class="UFICommentBody"><span id=".reactRoot[3].[1][2][1]{comment10151294714563798_8314061}.0.[1].0.[1].0.[0].[0][2].0.[0]">the bottom line is that this is the holidays, we celebrate the birth of Christ! He certainly does not promote such filth! Shame on you Urban Outfitters!</span></span></span></p>
<p>One thing worth noting: so-called filthy words are commonly described as profane. However, at least within the Jewish/Christian context, the scope of the biblical prohibition on improper language is rather narrow, extending only to false oath-taking and abuse of the covenantal divine name YHVH. Outside of this context, biblical language can get rather salty.</p>
<p>Slate has a solid write-up of the language questions <a href="http://www.slate.com/articles/life/explainer/2012/08/religion_and_profanity_is_it_sinful_to_swear_.html">here</a>. </p>
